Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island received more than 30 project proposals from bidders responding to the three-state request for proposals (RFP) for clean energy and transmission projects issued on November 12, 2015. Public versions of the bids submitted by the January 28, 2016 bid submission deadline have been posted to the Clean Energy RFP website.

Mass. Gov. Charlie Baker visits ISO-NE, tours control room

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker met with Philip Shapiro, ISO New England’s board chairman; Gordon van Welie, ISO New England president and CEO; and staff for about an hour on September 15, 2015, to learn about the ISO’s responsibilities. van Welie said the ISO was pleased to be able to showcase its state-of-the-art control room and the highly-trained system operators who keep the electricity flowing in the six-state region. ISO-NE Board Chair Philip Shapiro added that the ISO stands ready to provide its expertise to Massachusetts and the other New England states as they address complex regional energy challenges.

New England’s governors release six-state action plan to address energy infrastructure needs

The New England governors convened a Northeast Forum on Regional Energy Solutions on April 23, 2015, in Hartford, Connecticut, to discuss regional energy challenges and potential solutions. The forum’s public session included two panels, one focused on New England’s energy infrastructure challenges, and the other focused on regional collaboration to support energy infrastructure solutions.

ISO-NE CEO discusses the grid’s progress, challenges ahead on New Hampshire Public Radio show

On May 29, Gordon van Welie, president and chief executive officer of ISO New England, was a guest on the live New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) talk show, “The Exchange.” During the hour-long program, hosted by Laura Knoy, van Welie discussed challenges facing the New England power grid, including region’s increased dependence on natural gas to produce electricity, the upcoming retirement of power plants, and integrating more renewable energy sources like solar and wind. He also fielded questions from listeners who called in.
