New England’s Wholesale Energy Markets

(Streamlined version of the former Introduction to Wholesale Electricity Markets—WEM 101)
June 5–6, 2024

This course provides a detailed exploration of energy markets in New England, covering essential topics needed to understand the wholesale electricity markets. It provides an overview of energy markets, including market participants, structures, and how they work. Unit commitment and dispatch processes are covered, as is demand in New England markets, as well as locational marginal pricing (LMP) and its impact on electricity prices.
