ISO-NE staff share expertise in conferences, webcasts

Collaboration, expertise, and innovation are three of ISO New England’s core values. Staff embody these values by presenting their work at electricity industry conferences and events around the region, the country, and the world. Here’s a selection of their August speaking engagements.

Vamsi Chadalavada, president and CEO, spoke at the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG-ECP) conference in Burlington, Vermont, on Aug. 10. He discussed the growing challenges facing the region’s electric grid and the actions needed to maintain reliability and affordability as demand increases and the energy system becomes more interconnected.

Chadalavada also spoke at the Northeast Public Power Association (NEPPA) annual conference in Hyannis, Massachusetts, on Aug. 17, highlighting the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and long-term planning to ensure New England’s electric grid remains reliable as the power system evolves.

Sarah Adams, senior state policy advisor, External Affairs, and Ruben Flores-Marzan, policy advisor, Environmental & Community Affairs, spoke at a virtual meeting of the American Planning Association (APA) Ohio Planning Webcast Series on Aug. 21 about the relationship between energy system planning and community planning in New England’s ongoing energy transition.

Mary Cate Colapietro, senior communications specialist, Corporate Communications, was featured on 22News’s “InFocus” on Aug. 15, sharing insights on storytelling, communications, and the important work behind New England’s power grid.

Colapietro was also a guest on GBH’s newest show, “The Curiosity Desk,” on Aug. 19. Using a quiz format, she explained ISO New England’s role as the region’s independent system operator and walked listeners through the three main components of the power system: electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. She also discussed how electricity is delivered across New England and highlighted the region’s evolving energy mix, noting that natural gas currently produces the largest share of New England’s electricity.
