Training materials address energy storage participation in day-ahead market

Participant Training Services offers two new resources to support understanding of how the unique characteristics of electric storage facilities (ESFs) are addressed under a new day-ahead state of charge requirement from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

FERC Order No. 841 is designed to remove barriers to market participation for existing and emerging storage technologies. It provides market participants who want to allow ISO New England to leverage their ESFs the option of activating a constraint and submitting four new parameters in the Day-Ahead Energy Market.

To help explain these changes, Participant Training Services has developed a 10-minute explainer — “Electric Storage Facility (ESF) Market Participation with FERC Order No. 841: Day-Ahead State of Charge” — available as a video and downloadable transcript. There is also a companion timeline highlighting key dates and deadlines to support participant readiness.

For additional information, visit the ISO’s FERC Order No. 841: Day-Ahead State of Charge page and the Training Materials page.

ISO New England offers a variety of training materials to help participants understand the region’s wholesale electricity market and power system. Is there something specific you’d like to see? Take a short survey to provide your feedback.
