Hot weather updates: Week of July 14, 2025

July 17, 2025 – 9:00 p.m.

ISO New England has lifted the precautionary abnormal conditions alert. The system status has returned to normal.

July 17, 2025 – 12:30 p.m.

A precautionary alert ISO New England issued yesterday remains in effect as hot, humid weather in the region could lead to tight operating conditions over the evening peak Thursday. ISO New England will continue to monitor conditions as the region experiences continued hot weather.

Consumer demand for electricity is expected to peak at approximately 24,200 megawatts (MW) this evening. This peak falls in line with ISO New England’s pre-summer forecasts for demand. Demand Wednesday peaked at approximately 23,880 MW between 6 and 7 p.m.

ISO New England expects to have the resources needed to meet consumer demand and required operating reserves, but system operators have tools at their disposal to balance system demand if needed.

July 16, 2025 – 3:30 p.m.

ISO New England is monitoring conditions as hot, humid weather drives higher consumer demand for electricity across the region.

System operators issued a precautionary alert at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, due to anticipated tight operating over the evening peak.

Known as an M/LCC 2, this alert notifies power system operations, maintenance, construction, and test personnel, as well as other market participants, that they should suspend any testing or maintenance on their resources that could affect grid reliability.
