Boston MBTA hosts ISO-NE for OP-14 training

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) hosted a classroom session of ISO New England’s Resource Operator OP-14 Training (ROOT) at the MBTA Emergency Training Center in Boston on November 25, 2019. This was the second year in a row that MBTA has hosted the ROOT class.

ISO-NE Principal Business Analyst Hector Nunez presents to the group.

John Corcoran, supervisor of training with the MBTA Power Department, organized the training session for MBTA power dispatchers for their M Street Jet.

Stephen George, manager of the Operational Performance, Training, and Integration group at the ISO was there to oversee the training. “We’re thankful that MBTA reached out to us about hosting this training session. It shows their dedication to the reliable operation of the grid. Plus, it’s always great to meet generator operators,” said George.

After the training, Corcoran led the ISO New England instructors in a tour of the Emergency Training Center. This tour included mock-up subway platforms, trains, and buses where MBTA holds emergency training for its operators and for operators from other mass transit authorities from around the globe.

ISO New England Operating Procedure No. 14 (OP-14) defines the technical requirements for generators, demand response resources, asset related demands, and alternative technology regulation resources.
