ISO-NE provides update on compliance with FERC large loads order
ISO New England and the region’s transmission owners intend to request a 90-day abeyance as part of compliance with a show cause order issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) related to the integration of large loads and co-located loads, such as data centers.
The order was one of six issued by FERC on June 18 to regional grid operators across the country to speed up the integration of large energy users onto the grid while adding consumer safeguards. ISO New England and the region’s transmission owners intend to fully comply with the directives in the order.
Under the order, the abeyance request must be filed by Aug. 3. If granted, the abeyance would allow for a stakeholder process ahead of a Nov. 16 deadline for the ISO and regional transmission owners to file changes to the region’s interconnection processes to account for large loads and co-located loads.
Separately, by July 20, the ISO must file with FERC an informational report on resource adequacy in the context of large loads.
ISO New England will discuss further plans for the compliance process with stakeholders in the coming weeks, and more information will be shared on ISO Newswire as it becomes available.
