ISO Minute: The Regional System Plan

In this ISO Minute, Al McBride, vice president, System Planning, shares how planning the grid of the future, one of ISO New England’s three critical roles, comes to life through the Regional System Plan (RSP).

The RSP identifies power grid needs and transmission investments that are required to maintain reliability over a 10-year horizon. While the plan is not a comprehensive blueprint of the grid, it serves as a technical resource for policymakers, owners and developers of energy infrastructure, and other stakeholders.

The regional system planning process in New England incorporates advisory input from public meetings of the Planning Advisory Committee (PAC), where stakeholders including market participants, state officials, and consumer and environmental advocates can offer input.

This year’s plan and key takeaways can be viewed on the ISO New England website.
