Video, infographic explain distributed energy resource aggregation

Participant Training Services offers two new resources to support understanding of FERC Order No. 2222 and how it enables new forms of participation in the region’s wholesale electricity markets via aggregators.

The DER Aggregation & Wholesale Markets explainer video (approximately 5 minutes) uses a farmers market analogy to illustrate how small energy resources — like rooftop solar, batteries, and smart devices — can team up through aggregators to participate in the wholesale electricity market.

The accompanying DER Market Roles infographic visually recaps the key players featured in the video — ISO New England, distributed energy resources (DERs), aggregators, distributed energy resource aggregator (DERAs), and the electricity market — highlighting their roles and interactions in a concise, easy-to-understand format.

For additional information, visit the Order No. 2022 Key Project page and the Training Materials page on ISO New England’s website.

ISO New England offers a wide variety of training materials to help participants understand the region’s wholesale electricity market and power system. Is there something specific you’d like to see? Take a short survey to provide your feedback.
