Participant Training Services is pleased to announce that registration is open for New England’s Wholesale Energy Markets (NEWEM). This course explores the core elements of New England’s energy markets and gives you the tools to understand how the wholesale energy system works.

We’ll begin with an overview of energy markets, covering market participants, structures, and operations. From there, we’ll explore market interactions among participants before taking a closer look at the Day-Ahead Energy Market, including the auction process and its outcomes, followed by forecasting and scheduling techniques.

Next, we’ll break down unit commitment and dispatch, focusing on optimization and real-time dispatch, before briefly examining locational marginal pricing (LMP) and its impact on electricity prices.
We’ll then turn our attention to demand in New England’s markets, exploring demand response programs and their market implications.

Next, we’ll cover Day-Ahead and Real-Time Energy Market accounting, including financial settlements and billing processes.

Finally, we’ll provide an overview of the Day-Ahead Ancillary Services Market.

By the end of this course, you’ll have a solid grasp of New England’s wholesale energy markets, giving you the confidence to operate effectively in this dynamic industry.

This course includes a mandatory pre-work assignment (Learner Profile Report) that takes approximately five minutes to complete before class.
