ISO Minute: Making a model to study the grid’s future

ISO Minute is a video series featuring ISO New England employees speaking about their experiences working for the region’s independent system operator and supporting the safe and reliable transition to clean energy.

In this ISO Minute, Ben Wilson, an engineer in System Planning at ISO New England, discusses his role in a recent analysis exploring the future of New England’s power grid. The ISO’s Economic Planning for the Clean Energy Transition (EPCET) study looks beyond the typical 10-year planning horizon, considering how the grid might handle shifts in the generation mix and rising consumer demand as electric vehicles and heat pumps become more common.

As the study’s main modeler, Ben was responsible for determining and arranging key assumptions to analyze using advanced software tools.
