ISO Minute: A study on New England’s long-term transmission needs

ISO Minute is a video series featuring ISO New England employees speaking about their experiences working for the region’s independent system operator and supporting the safe and reliable transition to clean energy.

In this ISO Minute, Daniel Schwarting, manager, Transmission Planning, discusses ISO New England’s landmark 2050 Transmission Study.

This long-range analysis offers an overview of the transmission investment needed into the middle of the century to ensure bulk power system reliability throughout the clean energy transition. The results were driven by assumptions about the region’s future resource mix and demand for electricity provided by the New England states via the Massachusetts Energy Pathways to Deep Decarbonization study.

The study’s final report is now available, along with a factsheet that summarizes the findings.

A draft of the report was released in November 2023.
