Internal Market Monitor releases Spring 2020 Quarterly Markets Report

ISO New England’s Internal Market Monitor (IMM) released its Spring 2020 Quarterly Markets Report, which covers the period from March 1, 2020 through May 31, 2020. Each quarterly IMM report assesses the state of competition in the wholesale electricity markets operated by the ISO. The report addresses the development, operation, and performance of the wholesale electricity markets and presents an assessment of each market based on market data, performance criteria, and independent studies. The report concluded that the total estimated wholesale market cost of electricity in Spring 2020 was $1.25 billion, down 35% from $1.91 billion in Spring 2019. The decrease was driven by lower energy and capacity costs, as well as lower natural gas prices and consumer demand, in Spring 2020. Learn more about the IMM.
