Internal Market Monitor releases Winter 2020 Quarterly Markets Report

ISO New England’s Internal Market Monitor (IMM) released its Winter 2020 Quarterly Markets Report, which covers the period from December 1, 2019 to February 28, 2020. Each quarterly IMM report assesses the state of competition in the wholesale electricity markets operated by the ISO. The report addresses the development, operation, and performance of the wholesale electricity markets and presents an assessment of each market based on market data, performance criteria, and independent studies. The report concluded that the total estimated wholesale market cost of electricity in Winter 2020 was $1.78 billion, down 32% from $2.59 billion in Winter 2019. The decrease was driven by lower energy and capacity costs, as well as lower natural gas prices, in Winter 2020. Learn more about the IMM.
