ISO-NE CEO visits NECN to discuss natural gas dependency, other challenges affecting the regional grid

The New England Cable News (NECN) station welcomed Gordon van Welie, president and CEO of ISO New England, on June 10, to be a guest on their show “CEO Corner,” hosted by business editor Peter Howe.

Gordon van Welie, president and CEO of ISO New England, and NECN’s business editor Peter Howe on “CEO Corner.”During the half hour program, van Welie explained the role of the ISO and discussed the challenges currently affecting the wholesale electric power industry in New England. These include, the region’s increasing dependence on natural gas and the pipeline capacity issues that have ensued as a result, upcoming retirement of power plants, the growth of renewable resources such as solar and wind, and the affect each are having on grid reliability and wholesale electricity process.
