US Senate approves FERC nominees

The US Senate confirmed the nominations of Neil Chatterjee and Robert Powelson on August 3, 2017, restoring a quorum to FERC for the first time since early February. Both were sworn in the following week, and President Trump named Commissioner Chatterjee as temporary Chairman on August 10.

FERC accepts market changes to accommodate energy storage in ISO-NE energy markets

The changes, which go into effect December 2018, provide greater flexibility for new storage technologies to participate in the wholesale electricity marketplace

On December 9, 2016, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) accepted changes to ISO New England’s market rules to allow energy storage to participate as dispatchable resources in the Day-Ahead and Real-Time Energy Markets, while continuing to participate as alternative technology regulation resources (ATRRs) in the Regulation Market.

FERC issues 2016 Reliability Primer

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has posted a Reliability Primer. The publication describes the basic structure, fundamental concepts, and functions of how the bulk power system operates. It then provides a comprehensive overview of FERC’s role in overseeing the reliable operation of the nation’s interconnected electric grid. According to FERC, the 78-page Reliability Primer is a product of FERC staff and does not reflect the views of the Commission or any individual Commissioner.
