ISO-NE publishes annual regional system planning document

ISO New England’s 2015 Regional System Plan—a comprehensive report outlining the region’s progress to date in upgrading the power system to help ensure reliability and forecasts future needs and how they may be addressed—is available now on the ISO’s website. The fifteenth Regional System Plan issued by the ISO is the product of a year-long, collaborative process with industry representatives and other stakeholders to analyze power system needs and solutions for the 10-year planning period through 2024. The report also summarizes power system infrastructure development to date and underway, strategic issues facing the region, and ISO New England and regional initiatives.
The report discusses:
- The long-term load forecast for New England, including energy consumption and peak demand projections
- Transmission system developments and resource additions to date
- In-progress and future transmission projects needed for reliability
- Strategic issues facing the region, including natural gas infrastructure constraints; increasing generator retirements; and the integration of renewable resources
